Scope of Work
The Fractional Executive Director will report to the SDNTA Board of Directors and work in close collaboration with stakeholders to achieve the organization’s objectives. This is a 1099 contract position. While the contractor will manage their own time, the estimated allocation of effort is as follows:

  • 30% Network Planning and Management
  • 30% Board Management
  • 30% Fundraising and Capacity Building
  • 10% Advocacy and Outreach

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Network Planning and Management (30%)
  • Support the development of a 2025 work plan in collaboration with the SDNTA Board, aligning with NATDMP priorities and setting clear outcomes.
  • Implement priority projects, including cultural tourism product development, pilot testing tour experiences, and supporting Native businesses and communities.
  • Support Indigenous tourism entrepreneurship capacity-building as well as research in close collaboration with SDNTA partners. 
  • Organize SDNTA meetings, trainings, and events in collaboration with partners.
  • Ensure timely delivery of project deliverables.
  1. Board and Volunteer Management (30%)
  • Coordinate SDNTA Board meetings, ensuring effective communication and engagement with Board members.
  • Support the Board in decision-making processes and institutional strengthening initiatives.
  • Facilitate collaboration between the Board and Tribal Nations.
  • Oversee and coordinate action team volunteers, including those focused on fundraising, program development, and tribal advocacy, to ensure active participation and alignment with SDNTA priorities and objectives.
  1. Fundraising and Capacity Building (30%)
  • Develop and execute a fundraising strategy in collaboration with the SDNTA fundraising committee, including securing grants and sponsorships.
  • Build organizational capacity through training, outreach, and resource development.
  1. Advocacy and Outreach (10%)
  • Develop an advocacy strategy to enhance SDNTA’s visibility and influence.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with Tribal Nations and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in economic development, tourism, community engagement, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Tribal Nations, including knowledge of Tribal governments and socio-economic organizations in South Dakota.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and build organizational capacity.
