The plan features 43 priority initiatives that include a wide range of infrastructural projects, tourism attractions and product development initiatives along with community and entrepreneurship preparedness opportunities.
The overarching objective of this plan is to help develop Native American tourism that is led and managed collectively by community leaders from the sovereign Tribal Nations located in South Dakota.
The plan aims to ensure that tourism is inclusive and boosts local economies, fosters entrepreneurship, creates new jobs, and enables Native American communities to control their narratives of the past, present and future.
“A focus on native tourism is a priority for the South Dakota Department of Tourism. SDNTA is committed to being a resource and laying the groundwork for development and promotion of tourism on tribal lands. We look forward to our work with the SDNTA to create more tourism opportunities for our tribes and we are proud to be a partner in this alliance,” said James Hagen, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
